| | Luca's NighthawkIn the pictures below the images showing a lighter finish are the "after" shots.... |
| | First of all I removed the hardware and protected the binding with adhesive tape. To strip the paint off the neck I only used little pieces of sandpaper. For the body I used a chemical paint remover (but paying attention not to come too close to the binding - protected by a lot of adhesive tape - because I feared that the paint remover could damage it). After that I removed the protection tape and refined the body and the neck with a finer sandpaper. With this fine sandpaper I also removed the old finish from the binding, paying a lot of attention not to scrape it. Then I re-built the lacking piece of binding on the headstock, using a mouldable adhesive paste that in contact with air became white hard plastic. I painted black the pickups rings and the base of the bridge and removed the remaining traces of gold-plating from the mini humbucker and from the bridge saddles and I polished them. And, finally, I painted the guitar. I used transparent polyurethane stain, and wax finish. I bought new Gotoh tuners, a new truss-rod cover and jack plate, and then I reassembled my guitar. I also bought a Les Paul 3-ply pickguard, and I adapted it to the Nighthawk shape. |
