back

The main part of the body is made from poplar - which at least on my guitar is jointed (off the centre-line) in a single place, along the length of the body. The outline resembles a single cutaway Les Paul, slightly compressed along its length. A single cutaway allows easy access up to the 22nd fret. Aside from the cutaway, the outline of the body is symmetrical about the centre-line.

The top of the guitar is -

bulletfaced with maple that appears to be around 0.25"/6.5mm thick - book-matched down the centre line. On my BluesHawk the grain and figuring of the maple is clear & attractive - some I have seen are a bit bland.
bulletflat/un-carved
bulletedged with cream plastic binding that matches the pickup covers
bulletPierced by two "f-holes" that are unbound - the lower opens into the control compartment - the upper into a small cavity or "sound-chamber" on the upper bout.

The back of the guitar has -

bullettwo black plastic covers set into it  - the larger gives access to the control electronics, the smaller covers the dummy coil
bulleta contoured upper waist
bulletsix metal ferrules retain the through-body stringing

Dimensions -

bulletWidth at widest point - 12.75"/22.3cm
bulletLength - 15.9"/40.5cm
bulletThickness - 1.75"/4.4cm tapering to 1.4"/3.7cm at the neck joint

finish

The BluesHawk is finished in high gloss lacquer. Lacquer is an excellent finish for musical instruments as it has a slightly porous finish, and allows the wood to 'breathe'. Lacquer can also be applied very thinly, so as to not dampen the tone of the instrument. Lacquer ages to an attractive dull patina. Clear lacquer can darken with time.
