Personal statement - I believe that all people should have equal opportunities to succeed in achieving their aspirations. I further believe that differences in social class, gender, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, and physical, emotional & perceptual capacity etcetera, have a profound impact on the ability of individuals and groups to achieve their aspirations. As a result I believe that oppressed, vulnerable and stigmatised individuals and groups require support and positive action in their favour, to remove the social and economic barriers that bar their self-determined progress. Much of my life has been given over to the achievement of social change, that aims to remove those barriers. In particular I am committed to anti-poverty work and to challenging the stigma and discrimination heaped upon people who experience mental distress.
